Technical Assistant Genomics (NGS) (m/f/d)

About us

IMB (www.imb.de) is a research institute on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. It is generously funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Our research focuses on the biology of the cell nucleus and ranges from the molecular level to organismic, systems and computational approaches. We conduct basic research in gene regulation, genome stability, and the biology of aging. Researchers at IMB are supported by strong core facilities that offer state-of-the-art services in bioinformatics, cytometry, genomics, histology & microscopy, proteomics, and protein production. The Genomics Core Facility is looking for a highly motivated and experienced technical assistant (m/f/d) to join their team.

The position

You will join a skilled team of staff scientists and technical assistants to generate genome-wide data on the Illumina platforms NextSeq2000 and MiniSeq, as well as the MinIon platform from Oxford Nanopore Technologies. You will provide technical as well as operational support to facility users.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Organize, schedule, monitor and report NGS projects
  • Perform library preparation and quality control of DNA and RNA samples
  • QC, library prep and NGS result project documentation
  • Handle and maintain lab equipment and sequencers
  • Provide basic project support to researchers and instrument training

Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • Either bachelor´s degree in a biological science or in a related field or completed apprenticeship as technical assistant (i.e. BTA, MTA or related field)
  • Experience in lab work and good understanding of molecular biology
Desired Requirements
  • Experience in assisting with the operation of a next generation sequencing (NGS) facility or other high-throughput techniques is strongly desired
  • Ability to deliver high-quality NGS data in a responsible and independent manner
  • Strong team spirit and good oral and written communication skills in English
